Marouflage - A painting or mural done on canvas and then cementedwith an adhesive to a wall or panel.

Marouflage is a 3,000-year-old technique. Traditionally , artists used several types of adhesives including a rabbit-skin glue. Marouflage, was a glue made from the residue of oil paint, and later in the 1900's, a mixture of linseed oil, whiting and ground white lead where used.

The artist had the advantage of painting the canvas on large easel, wall or floor, in the comfort of his or her own studio. Another advantage was that the previously painted canvas would not crack which was the case with plastered walls and ceilings.

The other bonus was that a mural could be safely removed at a later date and even installed in another location.

With today's technology and materials in combination with traditional techniques we can achieve outstanding results. At  CLASSIC ATELIER  we use the best preshrunk canvas on the market and the best environmentally safe water/clay base adhesives, insuring the best quality job for your mural project.
